Miranda Lambert, the queen of country sass, is known for her fiery lyrics and take-no-prisoners attitude. But when it comes to her love life, it seems she’s got a soft spot for old-fashioned romance. The story of how she fell for her husband, former NYPD officer Brendan McLoughlin, is as sweet and unexpected as a slow dance at a honky-tonk.
It all started with a chance encounter on the set of Good Morning America in 2019. Lambert’s bandmate, Angaleena Presley, was the first to spot McLoughlin, immediately dubbing him the “hot cop.”
"You’ve got to see this guy," Presley reportedly told Lambert, her voice laced with playful urgency.
Lambert’s team, sensing a potential love connection, invited McLoughlin to one of her shows – with one catch.
“No plus one. He came by himself,” Lambert later revealed.
The two met up after the show, and as Lambert put it, "There wasn't an agenda, really... He was super cool, and we just talked and kept in touch."
But staying “in touch” for Lambert meant taking a decidedly analog approach – writing letters.
