Melinda French Gates is making headlines with her unwavering commitment to philanthropy. At 59, after stepping down from the Gates Foundation, she appeared on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, reaffirming her pledge to give away her fortune. “I absolutely still intend to give away my personal fortune,” she declared. Her dedication to thoughtful giving stems from a deep sense of responsibility.
“Anybody who’s grown up in this country has really been lucky... If you are a billionaire, my gosh have you benefited from this country. So we should give back,” she told Colbert.
Since founding Pivotal Ventures in 2015, French Gates has focused on advancing social progress by eliminating barriers that hinder people’s potential.
Her mission is clear: “Women’s rights are not only on the agenda, but that women are setting the agenda.” With women’s rights under threat globally, she aims to support more women in running for office and being well-prepared for legislative challenges. “What I saw, part of why our women’s rights got rolled back in the United States is that those organizations were starved for funding, and they were playing defense,” she explained.
