Julia Roberts and Danny Moder met in 2000 on the set of the film The Mexican, where Moder was working as a cinematographer. At the time, both were in other relationships - Roberts was dating Benjamin Bratt, while Moder was married to makeup artist Vera Steimberg.
Roberts and Moder split from their respective partners in 2001-2002, and on July 4, 2002, they got married in a private ceremony at Roberts' ranch in New Mexico. The wedding was kept secret, with guests just told they were "celebrating Independence Day.
"
In May 2004, Roberts' spokesperson confirmed she was expecting twins with Moder. On November 28, 2004, they welcomed twins Phinnaeus and Hazel. The couple then had a third child, son Henry, in June 2007.
Over the years, Roberts and Moder have tried to keep their family life private, though they've shared the occasional sweet social media tribute. In 2014, Moder praised Roberts' acting in The Normal Heart, and that year they were honored by GLSEN for their work.
In 2015, Roberts called Moder her "favorite person on the planet," and in 2017 she said his return home each day was like "a recurring dream." They celebrated their 15th, 17th, and 19th anniversaries with loving Instagram posts.
For their 20th wedding anniversary in 2022, Roberts posted a throwback photo, saying she "can't stop smiling" and "can't stop kissing" Moder. That year, she also revealed plans to celebrate with "more kissing" and said he's the "anchor" of their family.
In September 2022, Roberts wore a custom gown embroidered with Moder's initials, their wedding year, and the birth dates of their kids. And in December 2023, she called him the "captain of our ship."
Through two decades of marriage, Roberts and Moder have maintained a low-key, private life focused on raising their three children. By all accounts, their partnership remains strong, loving, and mutually supportive.
