Move over, Regency-era scandals—Luke Newton is trading frock coats for space suits. The breakout star of Netflix’s , beloved for his portrayal of the charming Colin Bridgerton, is blasting off into new territory with his first lead role in a live-action film. And if you think this is just another costume drama, think again.
From the Ton to the Cosmos
Newton’s latest venture, , swaps the lush ballrooms of London for the cold, eerie corridors of the isolated Aquila Research Facility. Teaming up with alum Lucy Hale, Newton steps into the role of Leo, a scientist facing off against a "malevolent entity" with a taste for destruction.
But don’t let the sci-fi setting fool you—this isn’t your run-of-the-mill space flick. "It’s a psychological thrill ride," said Hale in a statement, "and I’m thrilled to play Sammie, a character whose resilience and strength inspire me.
"
Fans of Hale’s sharp wit and Newton’s boyish charm are already abuzz with anticipation. "Finally, Luke gets to show he’s more than just the sweet Bridgerton boy," one fan tweeted. "This movie is going to be epic!"
Production is well underway at Cinecittà Studios in Rome, where the entire film is being shot in a cutting-edge virtual production environment. If that sounds futuristic, it’s because it is.
