In a surprising turn for the country star and former Hootie & the Blowfish frontman, Darius Rucker recently received his sentence following a drug-related charge stemming from a 2023 traffic stop. Back in February of that year, Rucker was pulled over for a routine violation in Tennessee, but things took a more serious turn when police discovered drugs in his vehicle. Officers found a small marijuana joint, a THC pen, and 14 purple pills later identified as psilocin, a substance found in magic mushrooms.
During his court appearance in September 2024, Rucker pled no contest to the charges of simple drug possession. By doing so, he avoided a lengthy legal battle and any potential jail time. Instead, he was sentenced to 11 months and 29 days of probation. If Rucker successfully completes this probation period, his record will be cleared, allowing him to move past the incident.
The charges of expired registration were dismissed, reflecting the court’s leniency given his otherwise clean record.
Reflecting on the arrest, Rucker has expressed shock over the situation, noting that it was the first time in his life he'd seen the inside of a jail cell.
