A tragic incident unfolded in Southport, England, where a 17-year-old boy, Axel Rudakubana, has been charged with the murder of three young girls during a Taylor Swift-themed dance event. The attack occurred on July 29, 2024, at a children's dance class, resulting in the deaths of Bebe King, 6, Elsie Dot Stancombe, 7, and Alice Dasilva Aguiar, 9. Rudakubana faces three counts of murder, ten counts of attempted murder, and one count of possession of a bladed article.
Rudakubana made his first court appearance on August 1, 2024. Although his name was initially withheld due to his age—he turns 18 on August 7—the judge lifted the reporting restrictions following media inquiries. During the hearing, Rudakubana was seen covering his face with a gray prison-issued sweatshirt and did not respond when asked to confirm his name.
Judge Andrew Menary remanded him into custody, stating that he would remain in youth accommodation detention until the proceedings are completed. A plea and trial preparation hearing has been scheduled for October 25, 2024.
The incident took place at the Hart Space Studio, where a "Taylor Swift Yoga and Dance Workshop" was being held.
