When General Hospital said goodbye to Leslie Charleson’s beloved character, Monica Quartermaine, the entire show was impacted, not just on-screen but behind the scenes as well. For Jane Elliot, who portrayed Monica’s long-time sister-in-law and complicated frenemy, Tracy Quartermaine, the grief was deeply personal. The actress recently shared her heartfelt reflections on losing both the character of Monica and her dear friend Leslie Charleson.
It all started back in 1978 when Jane Elliot joined General Hospital just a year after Leslie Charleson took on the role of Monica. Despite their characters’ rivalry on-screen, off-screen, the two formed a lasting bond. But their connection goes even further back.
As Elliot shared in an interview, she and Charleson first met in the 1960s, when Elliot was performing in a Broadway play. "Leslie was dating a guy in the cast, and she would come and hang out in my dressing room," Elliot recalled, revealing that their friendship had been decades in the making before they even stepped foot on the set of General Hospital.
Over the years, their friendship blossomed, with Charleson even hosting Elliot’s wedding shower.
