It's official: Carrie Underwood is returning to American Idol, but this time as a judge! And judging by the reactions of fellow Idol alum Kelly Clarkson and Idol creator Simon Cowell, the "Before He Cheats" singer is about to bring a whole new level of experience and expertise to the judges' table.
"I think that's brilliant," Clarkson, who recently wrapped up her sixth season as host of The Kelly Clarkson Show, told E! News.
"Like, what better person to have—somebody that's won that show to come back." Clarkson, who won the very first season of American Idol and later judged The Voice, knows firsthand the impact of being a part of a music competition show. "I was able to look at these artists and go, 'No, no, no, this isn't lip service. I've been you literally, and this can happen and it's a lot of hard work,'" she shared.
Clarkson believes Underwood, who took home the crown in American Idol season four, will bring that same authenticity and hard-earned wisdom to the judging panel.
"I think she's going to do great. She's going to be honest with them," Clarkson explained. "She's experienced the same process and has gone on to have such a huge career. That's invaluable. To have somebody to look at and go, 'OK, they've done it and they're sitting right there. So, that means I am capable of doing it. I can dream that big.'"
