The world of American Idol is never short of drama, and with the news of Carrie Underwood joining the judges’ panel for season 23, the temperature is about to rise. Replacing pop superstar Katy Perry, who departed after season 22, Underwood’s arrival is already stirring up a storm of speculation and whispers of behind-the-scenes turmoil.
Lionel Richie’s Blessing: A Vote of Confidence
While many are curious about how Underwood will handle the pressure of the Idol spotlight, one prominent voice has offered his unwavering support: fellow judge Lionel Richie. Speaking with RadarOnline.com, the music legend expressed his enthusiasm for Underwood’s return, highlighting her experience and genuine connection to the show.
“It makes a lot of sense. She’s been there, done that. It’s not someone we have to get used to. And the fact is she has a great story – she came from American Idol,” Richie said, referencing Underwood’s 2005 victory in the fourth season.
He even joked that Underwood would need to develop a “great sense of humor” to deal with the often-unpredictable and comedic antics of co-judge Luke Bryan. "She's gotta sit next to Luke. All I can say to you is 'Hang on. Probably for the first five or six shows, to see her face and see how she deals with Uncle Luke sitting next to her, saying anything on his mind. I'm gonna love it. I'm loving it!”
