They're both American Idol champions, powerhouse vocalists, and seem to be living the ultimate dream. But behind the scenes, the relationship between Carrie Underwood and Kelly Clarkson is reportedly a lot more complicated than fans might think. While they've publicly maintained a cordial facade, a rumored long-standing feud between the two has been simmering beneath the surface.
The simmering tension between the two stars first surfaced last year when The Tylt conducted a poll asking fans which American Idol victor was the "most iconic." Underwood came out on top, receiving 57% of the vote, compared to Clarkson's 43%. While the results might have ignited a friendly competition, Clarkson attempted to defuse the situation on Twitter.
"I think we’re both winning in life and pretty blessed! Singers, mamas, CEOs… #AmbitiousBlondes,” she wrote. Underwood responded with a public display of support: “Whatever, girl, I voted for you! But seriously, I do wish more publications would just celebrate women’s success without pitting them against each other… Love ya! Hope you’re well!”
