In the latest Outlander prequel series, Blood of My Blood, we are introduced to the younger versions of some beloved characters from the original show, including the shrewd solicitor Ned Gowan. While we met an older, wiser Ned in Outlander season one, Blood of My Blood gives us a chance to see him in a completely different light. Played by Conor MacNeill, the younger Ned is still every bit as smart, charming, and endearing as the elder version, but with a raw energy that adds a refreshing dynamic to the series.
However, what truly stands out in this new series isn’t just the familiar faces, but the deep, unexpected friendship that forms between two characters: Henry Beauchamp and Ned Gowan. Henry, played by Jeremy Irvine, is one of the most intriguing characters in Blood of My Blood. He is a time traveler, struggling to adjust to the 18th century while desperately searching for his missing, pregnant wife, Julia (Hermione Corfield). In a time and place where his modern sensibilities and knowledge are out of place, Henry finds a surprising ally in Ned.
At first glance, their connection might seem trivial—a simple friendship between two men from different walks of life. But as the episodes unfold, we realize just how crucial this bond is for Henry, who is isolated, lonely, and carrying a secret that he cannot share with anyone, not even his closest friend.
