The season premiere of "America's Got Talent" took a poignant turn, transforming the stage into a sanctuary of remembrance. The Mzansi Youth Choir, a vocal ensemble from Johannesburg, South Africa, delivered a heart-wrenching rendition of Nightbirde's "It's Okay," a powerful tribute to the late singer-songwriter who captured hearts during her time on the show.
Nightbirde, whose real name was Jane Marczewski, became a beacon of hope and resilience in 2021 when she shared her battle with cancer while captivating audiences with her soulful voice. The Mzansi Youth Choir, deeply moved by Nightbirde's story and the message of strength in her music, chose to perform "It's Okay" as a testament to her indomitable spirit.
"When we heard Nightbirde singing the song on this stage, we were very inspired and touched by her story that we decided to record the song," explained the choir.
"This song has been such a pillar of strength to us as a choir through difficult times. We just want to continue her legacy, and that’s why we chose the song."
The choir's performance resonated deeply with the judges, particularly Simon Cowell, who couldn't hold back tears. "I know how much this would have meant to [Nightbirde]," he said, his voice thick with emotion.
