Oklahoma City’s highly anticipated rookie Thomas Sober will not make his NBA debut this year. According to Marc Stein of The Stein Line, Sober has been diagnosed with a torn ACL in his right knee, sustained during an offseason workout on Thursday. The Thunder confirmed the news in a press release, stating that the rookie big man will undergo rehabilitation throughout the 2025-26 season and is expected to miss the entire year.
For a franchise that has built its reputation on patience and player development, this is another blow to their rookie pipeline. The Thunder selected Sober with the No. 15 overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, seeing him as a versatile addition to their frontcourt. Instead, fans will have to wait until the 2026-27 season to see him in action.
Before arriving in Oklahoma City, Sober played one season at Georgetown University, where he averaged an impressive stat line: 14.
5 points, 8.5 rebounds, 2.4 assists, 1.5 steals, and 2.0 blocks per game. His combination of size, agility, and defensive instincts made him an intriguing NBA prospect.
However, his college career was already marked by adversity. A left foot injury that required surgery forced him to miss the second half of the 2024-25 season, raising questions about his durability even before he declared for the draft.
