As someone who has been watching General Hospital since my teens, I’ve seen my fair share of shocking deaths, unexpected returns, and steamy love triangles. But nothing—nothing—prepared me for what went down on the December 13, 2024 episode. Dex Heller, played by the charismatic Evan Hofer, died. And not just "soap-dead" (you know, the kind where you come back a year later with amnesia and a new face).
This was final. Sudden. And frankly, brutal.
I watched the screen, popcorn forgotten in my lap, as Dex collapsed—his heart stopped. Josslyn (played by Eden McCoy), his love, was helpless. The monitors flatlined. And just like that, a three-year journey ended in 42 gut-wrenching minutes.
How could GH do this to us?
Luckily, Hofer himself shed some light on the exit in a heartfelt interview with Michael Fairman TV. He revealed he was told about his character’s death a few weeks before filming. His reaction? “I just wanted to honor Dex’s story… to end it right.” That sentence stuck with me.
He talked about the intense scenes leading up to Dex’s demise, particularly the tense confrontation with villain Cyrus Renault (played chillingly by Jeff Kober).
