Remember Jack and Elizabeth? Yeah, the golden couple who made Paradise Valley look like a dream. Well, by the explosive finale of 1923 Season 2, their fairy tale had crashed harder than a runaway wagon. Elizabeth, now pregnant and thoroughly over the cowboy lifestyle, bolted from the ranch faster than you can say “horseshoe.”
"You really think I can raise a child in the wilderness?" Elizabeth snapped at Cara during one of their last, icy conversations.
Cara, ever the optimist, had merely smiled and said, "Love will find a way."
Spoiler alert: it didn’t. Elizabeth hightailed it to Boston, leaving behind more questions than answers — including what the heck was going to happen to her unborn child. Will this kid grow up calling some city slicker “Daddy” instead of a proud Dutton rancher? The showrunners conveniently zipped their lips, leaving fans to stew.
Meanwhile, Spencer — brooding, battered Spencer — wasn’t exactly writing poetry by candlelight. After burying Alex, the love of his life, he threw himself into ranch work with all the passion of a man avoiding a complete emotional collapse.
"Ranching doesn’t leave time for grief," Spencer muttered to Jacob, who nodded with that wise, worn-out expression that said, Kid, you have no idea.
