An American woman, Lalita Kayi Kumar, 50, was discovered chained to a tree in an Indian forest after being abandoned for 40 days, prompting a manhunt for her former husband. Kumar's ordeal began when she was found by a shepherd near Sonurli village, Goa, over the weekend. The shepherd, alerted by her cries, reported the distressing discovery to local authorities.
Grim Discovery
According to reports, Kumar was found in a severely emaciated state, bound with iron restraints and covered in dirt.
The Hindustan Times and The Telegraph provided harrowing details of her condition at the time of rescue. Kumar, unable to speak following her rescue, managed to communicate through a written note. In the note, she detailed her horrific experience, claiming that her former husband had left her to die in the forest after administering an "injection for extreme psychosis" which caused her jaws to lock and rendered her unable to drink water.
Kumar reported that her husband had tied her to a tree and abandoned her.
Manhunt and Investigation
Police have launched a manhunt for Kumar's former husband, who is now facing charges of attempted murder. Authorities have begun interviewing the couple’s relatives to gather more information about the case.
