Brazilian swimmer Ana Carolina Vieira has broken her silence following her removal from the Paris Olympics after a rule violation. Vieira, 22, and her boyfriend Gabriel Santos were sent home for sneaking out of the Athletes' Village to enjoy a night out in Paris.
The incident unfolded on July 26, after Vieira's team finished seventh in the women's 4x100m freestyle relay. The Brazilian Olympic Committee found that Vieira had left the village without permission, which led to her being reprimanded.
According to reports, her reaction to the reprimand was seen as disrespectful and aggressive, prompting the committee to expel her from the delegation.
The Brazilian Confederation of Aquatic Sports (CBDA) issued a statement explaining the situation: "The COB decided to punish the two athletes for having left the Olympic Village without authorization last Friday.
In addition, athlete Ana Carolina Vieira contested the technical decision taken by the Brazilian Swimming Team committee in a disrespectful and aggressive manner."
While Santos received only a warning, Vieira was sent back to Brazil immediately. The committee's response highlighted that their behavior was deemed unacceptable given the seriousness of the Olympic environment.
Vieira has since taken to her Instagram story to defend herself and express her frustration.
