Militarized Cybertrucks: A New Frontier for Law Enforcement?
Tesla's Cybertruck, known for its futuristic design and sci-fi appeal, is now making waves in law enforcement circles. Unplugged Performance, a California-based company specializing in Tesla modifications, is offering "upfitting" packages to convert Cybertrucks into high-tech police vehicles. These alterations cater to various tactical needs, from routine patrols to specialized operations.
High-Tech Patrol Vehicles: Unplugged Performance's new venture, UP.FIT, is promoting Cybertruck upgrades specifically designed for police use. The company's offerings include modifications for different operational needs: Patrol, Admin, and Tactical & Specialty. The Patrol package, for instance, is tailored to create high-visibility police vehicles with features like front rifle and shotgun mounts, pursuit-rated tires, and siren systems.
The Tactical & Specialty packages cater to K-9 units, SWAT teams, and other specialized law enforcement functions.
The Cybertruck, with its all-wheel drive and current price of $79,990, is set to become a significant investment for law enforcement agencies. With UP.FIT’s enhancements, the cost of a fully equipped Cybertruck could exceed $90,000. For comparison, a new Ford Explorer 4WD Police Interceptor costs around $47,000.
