LOS ANGELES —
The University of California (UC) system is poised to welcome its most diverse and largest class of first-year students for Fall 2024, marking a significant milestone in the institution's history. The data released on Wednesday highlights an unprecedented increase in Latino and African-American student admissions, alongside a notable rise in students from low-income backgrounds and first-generation college students.
A New Record
This year’s incoming class has achieved record-breaking numbers, with the highest enrollment figures ever recorded at the UC system. The new cohort reflects a rich tapestry of backgrounds, underscoring the university's commitment to fostering diversity and inclusion.
"When you graduate and enter the professional world, you'll encounter individuals with varying perspectives and experiences," said Gary Clark, Associate Vice Chancellor for UCLA Enrollment Management.
"It’s crucial for students to engage with diverse viewpoints during their undergraduate years to be better prepared for the diverse world they’ll face."
Diverse Representation
The increase in Latino and African-American students is particularly noteworthy. The UC system's efforts to expand access and support for underrepresented communities have yielded positive results.
