Caviezel is Weinstein’s ‘Outlander’

Jim Caviezel has officially agreed to play the lead role in "Outlander," a sci-fi adventure film being directed by Howard McCain for the Weinstein Co. Sophia Myles and Jack Huston are currently in talks to join the cast.

The plot follows a man who hails from a distant galaxy and crash-lands on Earth during the Viking era. Accidentally bringing along an alien predator, he teams up with a Viking tribe to defeat it. McCain, alongside Dirk Blackman, penned the script.

Producers include Chris Eberts, Kia Jam, Chris Roberts, and Barry Osborne, with Don Carmody, Andreas Grosch, Karen Loop, and John Schimmel as executive producers.

Production, previously set to take place in New Zealand with Karl Urban in the lead, will now commence on Oct. 15 in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

Caviezel has his upcoming thriller "Unknown" releasing on Nov. 7 and also stars in "Deja Vu" alongside Denzel Washington, debuting on Nov. 22. Myles and Huston, represented by ICM, have notable credits in "Art School Confidential" and "Factory Girl," respectively.
