Starz and Sony Pictures TV are teaming up to expand the world of Outlander with a new prequel series. Showrunner Matthew B. Roberts will be writing and executive producing the project. This news comes just before the sixth season of the time-traveling drama debuts on Starz after being delayed due to COVID. The prequel's setting and story details are being kept secret for now. Outlander author Diana Gabaldon wrote a novella in 2013, titled Virgins, that explored younger versions of Jamie Fraser and Ian Murray.
Executive producer Ron Moore hinted at potential spinoffs from the main series in an interview earlier this year.
