The time-traveling Frasers find themselves entangled in the American Revolution in the upcoming season of Outlander.
Adapted from Diana Gabaldon's novel, the historical fiction series features Caitriona Balfe and Sam Heughan. The seventh season is set to premiere on Friday, June 16, exclusively on Starz. As the show's log line states, "The Fraser family is caught in the violent birth pains of an emerging nation as armies march to war and British institutions crumble in the face of armed rebellion.
" It has been confirmed that the longest-running original show in Starz's history will conclude with its eighth season.
The show centers around the love story of Claire (Balfe), a former military nurse from World War II in Scotland, who is transported from 1945 to 1743; and Jamie (Heughan), a rebel Highlander from Clan MacKenzie. They wed and travel through time, experiencing periods such as 18th century Paris and 1960s Boston before landing in North Carolina during the Revolutionary War.
Throughout their journeys, the couple has a daughter, Brianna (Sophie Skelton), and adopts a son, Fergus.
Following the events of season six, Jamie (Heughan) and their young nephew, Ian (John Bell), must rush to save Claire (Balfe) after she is wrongly accused of murder. The American Revolution complicates their rescue mission and disrupts their peaceful life in the hills of North Carolina, where tensions rise among the Native Americans, the British, and the Frasers.
