Miranda Lambert, the queen of country music, is back with a sassy new single, and it turns out the song has a surprising co-writer: her husband, Brendan McLoughlin! That’s right, the former NYPD officer traded in his badge for a guitar pick (well, sort of) and helped pen Miranda's latest hit.
Miranda and Brendan, who tied the knot in a whirlwind romance five years ago, have always been each other’s biggest cheerleaders. But "Dammit Randy" marks the first time Brendan has gotten involved in Miranda’s songwriting process, and it seems he's pretty chuffed about it.
“He got a cut on the record, so he will not shut up about it, which is very funny," Miranda laughed, sharing the story behind the song in a recent Instagram video.
“We were talking about making this new album… and we were going to the studio the very next day to start the record," Miranda explained, setting the scene for Brendan's songwriting debut. She and frequent collaborator Jon Randall were hanging out at home in Austin, enjoying some tequila-fueled pre-production when inspiration struck.
