Lou Dobbs, a towering figure in conservative media and a longtime champion of former President Donald Trump, has died at the age of 78.
News of his passing emerged on July 18th, initially announced by Trump himself on his Truth Social platform. "The Great Lou Dobbs has just passed away," the former president wrote, adding a personal reflection: "He understood the World, and what was ‘happening,’ better than others. Lou was unique in so many ways, and loved our Country.
Our warmest condolences to his wonderful wife, Debi, and family. He will be greatly missed!”
Dobbs’ own social media accounts later confirmed the news, casting a somber shadow over a legacy built on fiery commentary and unwavering support for conservative causes.
Born Louis Carl Dobbs in 1945, Dobbs began his career in traditional journalism before transitioning to the burgeoning world of cable news.
He became a familiar face on CNN, where his show "Moneyline" – later renamed "Lou Dobbs Tonight" – established him as a powerful voice in business and financial news.
His tenure at CNN, however, was not without controversy. Dobbs’ increasingly vocal conservative views, particularly on issues like immigration and trade, led to clashes with the network. He eventually left CNN in 2009, later resurfacing on the Fox Business Network with a revival of his signature program.
